On the Boards presents Evan Flory-Barnes: On Loving the Muse and Family

Bassist and composer Evan Flory-Barnes creates a multi-part performance that references and remixes the tradition of historic late night variety shows, such as The Nat King Cole Show and The Dean Martin Show, with a series of self-reflexive monologue songs about his relationships, both intimate and familial.
Flory-Barnes will fill the stage with an extended family of musicians and performers including The Traumatics, The True Loves, and the Seattle Girls Choir, in addition to a full orchestra. On Loving’s musical range encompasses soul, country western, and ensemble choir linking the performance to a PBS-style episode about learning music.
On Loving is a celebration of life, philosophy, and psychology through music. Flory-Barnes creates an intimate evening with a cast of characters – both real and imagined – that reveals the artist’s inner relational and emotional world.
