Saturday, November 2, 2019 @ 8:00pm – 10:00pm (PDT)
The Chapel at the Good Shepherd Center, Seattle, WA, United States

Premiere of Garrett Fisher's Ragas for solo piano. Other works include music from the African Diaspora, Gorecki's piano sonata, and two Scriabin etudes.

Featuring new works by Garrett Fisher that create music from silence and mystery. The structure of these Ragas is built as an interactive game with the performer; one could possibly say "backwards" from normal musical composition because it is a guessing game between the composer and the pianist.

Fisher intuits a hidden intent that he then writes into a musical blueprint of generalized instructions for the performer; in this case solo piano. The pianist takes the blueprint and "hunts" for the intended result/desire by the composer. This hunt is done partially by following the blueprint of instructions and partially by experimental improvisation. Once the pianist discovers the emotional/psychological connection to the blueprints, then the pianist knows what the music should sound like.

Also featured in this recital will be works of African Diaspora, Gorecki's piano sonata, and two Scriabin etudes.

No intermission.
