Church hymns, love songs, and lullabies: each of these artistic expressions are inspired by, and based on, poetry. Yet, poetry’s impact isn’t just limited to the arts. Global communities use poetry to aid civic development, as an effective tool to move from conflict and pain to healing and renewal.

To explore the myriad ways poetry shapes modern society, Choral Arts Northwest shares the stage with New York Times best-selling author and CANW poet-in-residence Mark Nepo. Mr. Nepo and CANW Music Director Robert Bode have conspired to create a program of complementary poetry and musical works, featuring Mr. Nepo’s recitations from his best-selling book, The Way Under the Way. Musical selections paired with Mr. Nepo’s readings include stunning world premieres of compositions by CANW composer-in-residence Shawn Kirchner and Dominick DiOrio, as well as choral favorites by John David Earnest, Williametta Spencer, and Donald Grantham. Join them for a powerful choral cycle celebrating the transforming power of poetry and music.

There will be a pre-concert discussion with Mark Nepo, Shawn Kirchner, and Robert Bode at 2:30pm. A “Meet the Artists” reception follows the concert.

Tickets: $28 ($24 senior/military, student and youth tickets are FREE at the door)
