This unique and insightful concert celebrates the rich heritage of choral works by composers from the same family, including Clara and Robert Schumann (wife and husband); Fanny Hensel and Felix Mendelssohn (sister and brother); Gustav and Imogen Holst (father and daughter); Herbert and Lisa Bielawa (also father and daughter); Leopold and Wolfgang Mozart (father and son); and of course motets from the Bach family, as well as other familial combinations. The concert will also include winners of our annual Student Choral Composition Awards Program.

About Opus 7
Formed in 1992, Opus 7 Vocal Ensemble specializes in 19th–21st-century choral music with a special emphasis on works written in the last 50 years. Led by Founding Director Loren W. Pontén, Opus 7 has continually dedicated itself to bringing audiences to new worlds and new ideas through music and has achieved a reputation for precise musical artistry in the process. They have premiered over 300 compositions by Pacific Northwest composers. Since 2000 Opus 7 has sponsored the annual Robert Scandrett Memorial Student Composer Awards Program, providing cash prizes and professional recordings to over 30 high school, undergraduate, and graduate students. Their acclaimed CDs have received national recognition for craftsmanship and bold interpretation. Opus 7 has won three American Prize awards for choral performance (1st in 2013, 3rd in 2015, 2nd in 2024) and three consecutive Adventurous Programming Awards from ASCAP and Chorus America.
