Angelique Poteat – Her Story of a Soldier (world premiere commission, 2019)
Igor Stravinsky – The Soldier’s Tale, Retold (1918, arr. 2019)

Love high-quality classical music but hate the drive to Seattle? Come out to Emerald City Music. 45 incredible musicians from all over the globe gather at SPSCC’s Minnaert Center and The Washington Center all season long to enjoy high-caliber performances in our beautiful local setting.

At this show, old meets new in the retelling of Stravinsky’s iconic Soldier’s Tale. A cast of NYC Ballet dancers join forces with librettist Mark Campbell (award-winning writer of Seattle Opera’s The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs) to modernize this fantastic story of a soldier trading his violin to the devil for all of the world’s riches. The night caps off with a world-premiere by Seattle’s own Angelique Poteat titled Her Story of a Soldier, giving voice to enlisted women’s struggle for equality.

Cast: David Prottas, dancer (soldier) • Taeler Cyrus, dancer (princess) • Georgina Pazcoguin, dancer (devil) • Michael Barrett, director • Mark Campbell, librettist • Josh Bergasse, choreographer • Kristin Lee, violin • Alex Fitterstein, clarinet • Steve Burns, trumpet • Jon Rojak, trombone • Michael Thurber, bass • Oleksiy Zakharov, Bassoon • Ian Rosenbaum, percussion
