Join baritone David Hoffman and pianist Peter Nelson-King for Time and the Traveler, an evening of ravishing British art songs. Two cycles are featured, one well known and one greatly deserving of more attention. Ralph Vaughan Williams's Songs of Travel are stunning settings of vagabond poetry by Robert Louis Stevenson, and are among Vaughan Williams's finest works. They are paired with On Time by Egon Wellesz, a German composer who fled his native country during World War II and settled in England. His wartime cycle On Time depicts deep philosophical questioning and yearning, and is a unique contributios to English-language song literature. Accompanying the cycles are gems by Edgar Bainton, Frank Bridge, John Ireland, Roger Quilter and Haydn Wood.

About Peter Nelson-King

Peter Nelson-King is an active performer and teacher on trumpet and piano, and plays regularly with multiple orchestras and large ensembles in the Seattle area. A King County native, they earned degrees from University of Puget Sound and Boston University, returning to the Seattle area after freelancing in the Northeast. They are a longtime member of Lake Washington Symphony Orchestra and Brass Band Northwest, and a frequent recurring member of the experimental jazz group Scrambler. As a solo and chamber performer, they specialize in promoting works by composers who have unjustly fallen into neglect, and have revived major works by dozens of these composers for Seattle audiences.
