George Walker – Lyric for Strings

Performing from home, Seattle Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra presents George Walker's Lyric for Strings in a special video concert, available for free for one year. Written when Walker was just 24, years before he would become the first Black composer to win the Pulitzer Prize, the Lyric eulogizes his grandmother with lush string sounds that give depth to feelings of grief and comfort. It is presented in this film in remembrance of those who have suffered and died as a result of racial injustice, and in recognition of the work that must be done.

The broadcast will become available at 7:30pm Pacific.
