The Houston-based professional ensemble ROCO continues its free, livestreamed , site-specific Connections series with a celebration of the music of Margaret Bonds, one of the most prolific Black composers in the 1900’s – streamed live from Rienzi, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston’s historic house museum for European decorative arts.

Originally the home of arts patrons Carroll Sterling Masterson and Harris Masterson III, Rienzi houses an extensive record collection in which a rare, previously unknown late 60s recording of Margaret Bonds in performance was discovered.

Produced in collaboration with Rienzi, the concert will feature and be curated by pianist Howard Watkins, a scholar of Bonds’ music, and bass-baritone Timothy Jones, presenting a selection of her chamber works, plus music by composers who influenced or were influenced by her, including Florence Price, Ned Rorem, and Robert Owens.

The livestream will take place at 7pm Central / 5pm Pacific. Broadcasting live from Rienzi in Houston, TX.
