The Portland-based Metropolitan Youth Symphony virtual season finale features “theme and variations” on Edvard Grieg’s Peasant Song by student composers from MYS’ Authentic Voice collaboration with Fear No Music’s Young Composers Project. The final virtual concert also includes the world premiere of MYS conductor Giancarlo Castro D’Addona’s Portland Beauty, which is inspired by the composer’s first hike to Mirror Lake, a trek marked by sunshine, rain, and snow. The evening closes with multiple MYS ensembles performing selections of Georges Bizet’s colorful and flamboyant Carmen Suite No. 1.
