Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – Symphony No. 29 in A major, K. 201/186a

It’s been quite a year for everyone, and we are proud to be here, and to move into the future with our new Concertmaster Dawn Posey. The hope and joy of music come alive as we open our 46th season; a huge accomplishment in these times. We are so fortunate to have strong community support as we move forward.

The afternoon begins with a work by a true polymath: a man who mastered everything he set his hands to, from fencing to opera, violinist to composer. Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges’ Symphony No. 2 is a testament to his prodigious skills.

Selected after a national search, Posey solos on The Lark Ascending, introduced by Shu-Ling Zhao. This work is accompanied by a delightful, evocative visual presentation by our graphic designer, Audrey Negro, as well as members of our orchestra.

We close with Mozart’s Symphony No. 29, written by the 18-year-old Mozart after a trip to Vienna with his father, where he was exposed to the latest music of his friend and idol, Joseph Haydn, which many believe influenced the finale of this harmonically rich work.

The concert will take place September 25 at 7:30pm, and September 26 at 3pm.

Dr. Ryan Dudenbostel’s informative and engaging virtual Pre-Concert Lecture about the program will air on the BSO website during the week of the concert: https://www.bellinghamsymphony.org/
