David Monrad Johansen, arr. Adam Stern – Syv Sanger ("Seven Songs"), Op. 6
Edvard Grieg – Holberg Suite, Op. 40
This concert explores the kaleidoscopic colors of Norwegian music. A contemporary of Grieg, Agathe Backer-Grøndahl was considered Norway’s most prominent pianist of her time and wrote over 400 compositions. Her Scherzo for Orchestra was one of her earlier compositions and is full of energy and imagination. Inspired by Norwegian folk poems, David Monrad Johansen‘s Syv sanger ("Seven Songs") employs impressionistic techniques to depict the mythical nature of the Norwegian folklore. The concert will finish with Grieg’s beloved Holberg Suite.
The performance will take place at 2pm Pacific.
