Illuminated Sound is a showcase of contemporary music, sound art, and improvisation curated by composers James May and Stephen Montalvo. The two-hour event, on January 16, 2022, will feature prominent New Orleans-based contemporary musicians including Megan Ihnen & Alan Theisen present, Martin Masakowski, and Alexandria Smith. The two-hour event will explore the use of space, presenting a program of overlapping performances throughout multiple rooms within the Salon Gallery at the Canal Place mall to highlight a variety of sounds and styles, ranging from contemporary classical to modern improvisation. The performances will be presented in conjunction with long-form audiovisual installations, as well as the ongoing LUNA Lagniappe exhibition, to create a space in which the audience has the freedom to explore their surroundings as they wish and to tailor the listening experience to their individual preferences.

Doors will open at 5pm and attendees will have the opportunity to explore the LUNA Lagniappe installations before the concert begins at 6pm.
Tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 for students and seniors, and are available for purchase in advance or at the door.

COVID-19 Protocol: In accordance with guidelines from the City of New Orleans, all attendees must show proof of vaccination for COVID-19, or a negative PCR test within 72 hours, before entry to the event. We also ask that all attendees wear a mask.

In the event of cancellation due to COVID-19, tickets will be refunded.

About MIATp, voice + saxophone

MIATp is an avant-pop band making voice/saxophone/electronic sound worlds that are ancient and futuristic, funky and fragile. MIATp (AKA Megan Ihnen & Alan Theisen present...) had its roots as a contemporary classical duo but now combine experimental music, multiple pop genres, and theatre. With influences ranging from Björk to Sun Ra to Ligeti, MIATp shows have been praised as "a fresh look at what it means to be artists in the 21st Century." Microtones, hip hop beats, prog rock, jazz, silences, heavy metal – anything is possible at an MIATp show.
