- Kian Soltani, cello
Edward Elgar — Cello Concerto in E minor, Op. 85
Gustav Holst — The Planets, Op. 32
Vasily Petrenko’s 2019 Carnegie Hall debut (as a last-minute replacement for Mariss Jansons) was called “genuinely auspicious” (Musical America). Named the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s music director in 2021, he leads the orchestra in an all-English program for its first Carnegie Hall appearance in 25 years. Taking center stage for Elgar’s elegiac Cello Concerto is cellist Kian Soltani, celebrated for his “commanding technique and rhapsodic intensity” (The New York Times).
