The Benefit Concert is ORS’ premiere fundraising event of the year! We bring together some of Tacoma’s finest musicians who donate their performances for your enjoyment in a special afternoon of artistry, passion, and the love of music. This year, the concert has a wide range of instrumentation from the tradition four-hand piano repertoire to woodwind and brass groups. Organ is also featured, in the gorgeous Lagerquist Concert Hall at Pacific Lutheran University.

ORS’ major events like the Spring Concerto Festival and Fall Trio Festival provide musicians of all ages and skills the opportunity to play non-competitively as soloist or with a small ensemble. This year, all donations at the Benefit Concert will go towards one of ORS’ 2022 goals, the commission of a new work for ORS’ Spring Concerto Festival by a BIPOC (black, indigenous, [and] people of color) composer. The majority of classical repertoire that meets the skill level of many of our students was composed by European white men centuries ago. ORS’ goal is to bring new music into the community that our students can relate to, that suits their skill level and is a joy to play, while still cherishing the incredible pieces that make up the classical canon. Together, we can bring composers on stage alongside our students, granting them an experience they’ll never forget – the chance to premiere a new work written for students just like them.

COVID-19 Protocol: The School of Arts and Communication has established these guidelines for all events and performances open to external audiences:

- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination (or proof of negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of the start time) prior to the event. Those younger than 12 are excluded from this policy.

- Mask wearing throughout the event (exceptions as noted in the first policy above).

PLU community members (those with a PLU ID) are exempt from showing additional proof of vaccination status, since these have already been submitted and reviewed. For further questions regarding the PLU COVID-19 policy, please contact the School of Arts and Communication Dean’s Office at (253) 535-7162 or soac@plu.edu
