The Washington Post described Gemma New’s 2019 NSO debut as “meticulously calibrated beauty.” Now, the New Zealand-born conductor leads the world premiere of Missy Mazzoli’s Violin Concerto (Procession), commissioned by the NSO and performed by superstar Jennifer Koh.

The evening closes with Sibelius’s Symphony No. 5, which was commissioned by the Finnish government in honor of the composer’s 50th birthday (Dec. 8, 1915), now declared a national holiday.

COVID-19 Protocol: To enter Kennedy Center theaters, patrons must show proof they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 – with a physical or digital copy of their vaccination card and government-issued ID with the same name. Fully vaccinated means 14 days have passed since the full dose of a vaccine.

Some exemptions apply. Children who are vaccinated can show proof of vaccination for entry. Children who are not vaccinated must show proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours before performance time.

Masks are required for all audiences inside the Kennedy Center, except while eating or drinking in designated locations.

Ticket purchasers are responsible for communicating these rules to whomever they provide tickets. The vaccine requirement also applies to performers and staff.
