Here we present works written for specific occasions: a cantata for the 1734 wedding of Johann Adolf II of Saxe-Weissenfels to his second wife composed by our namesake, J. S. Bach; and —in what is likely its first, complete performance in the U.S.— funeral music for the 1751 death of King Frederick I of Sweden, composed by the “Swedish Handel,” Johan Helmich Roman.
