Opening with the breathtaking sunrise of Haydn’s ‘Matin’ Symphony, Principal Artistic Partner David Lockington invites you to share in this intimate concert featuring his viola concerto – inspired by his granddaughter – with guest violist Libor Ondras and Sebastain Kelzenberg, the winner of NWS’s 2022 Youth Concerto Competition.

COVID-19 Safety Protocol: Health and safety for patrons, musicians, and staff continue to be Northwest Sinfonietta's top priority as we enjoy returning to live performance this season! As of 9/1/21, NWS is joining performing arts organiations and venues across the Puget Sound region to require our audiences, musicians, and staff to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination, or proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 72-hours of the concert for exempted persons or children under 12 years of age. Masks will also be required for audiences inside the concert hall at this time.

Please be prepared to show documentation at the door on the day of the concert, including vaccine cards or 72-hour negative test results along with photo ID.

About Libor Ondras, viola

Dr. Libor Ondras is a conductor, viola recitalist, and educator. He began his studies as a recipient of the Slovak Ministry of Culture fellowship to study viola at the prestigious Moscow Conservatory with Yuri Bashmet. Among the highlights of his studies are fellowships at the Leonard Bernstein’ Pacific Music Festival in Japan, fellowship at Aspen Music Festival, and Carnegie Hall Project with Sir George Solti. Ondras has performed with major orchestras throughout the US and Europe including Vienna Philharmonics, Utah Symphony, Houston Symphony, given lectures and played recitals for the American Viola Society and International Viola D'Amore Society. His research and scholarly writings were published in the Journal of American Viola Society. His passion for chamber music has inspired him to found the Hummel Trio and Quartet de Minaret with which he performed in Eisenstadt and Vienna Austria. Ondras is a Music Director of the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra and Kent Philharmonic Orchestra (MI), guest conductor for the Slovak State Opera, string faculty and artist-in-residence at the Bay View Music Festival, and Director of Orchestras and professor at the Grand Rapids College. His recent projects included European tour with Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra, visiting artist at he Royal Conservatory of Scotland, research project at the Belle Violinmaking School in Bilbao, Spain, concert presentation at the National Conference of the League of American Orchestras.
