About Seong-Joo Kang, piano

Seong-Joo Kang was born in Seoul, South Korea. He received his first piano lessons at the age of five. After studies in piano at the Yewon School with Sookmi Lee and Seoul Art High School with Sooryeon Kim, he moved to Germany and earned a Bachelor Degree at Hamburg University of Music with Prof. Ralf Nattkemper (Pupil of the legendary German pianist Wilhelm Kempff). After that, he earned a Masters Degree at Munich University of Music with Prof. Adrian Oetiker (Winner of the ARD International Competition) and graduated with the highest score. Currently, he is studying with Prof. Kaya Han as a Konzertexamen at Karlsruhe University of Music.
Throughout his studies, Mr. Kang has participated in masterclasses and festivals of numerous world-renowned professors and musicians to develop his musical skills, including Prof. Dmitri Bashkirov, Prof. Pavel Gililov, Prof. Grigory Gruzman, Prof. Michel Beroff, Prof. Bernd Goetzke, Prof. Fabio Bidini, Prof. Björn Lehmann, Severin von Eckardstein, and Paul Badura Skoda. Through their teaching, he was able to grow musically with much inspiration.

Seong Joo Kang has won prizes at numerous piano competitions, such as first prize at the Seoul Christian University Piano Competition, second prize at the XVI International Competition “Music Without Limits”, first prize at International Music Competition (London) Grand Prize Virtuoso 2017, and 3rd prize at 2019 International Music Competition (Berlin) The 4 Rising Stars Grand Prix (2019).

Mr. Kang has also performed around the world in such concerts and festivals as City's Square of Entertainment Druskininkai (Lithuania), Korea meets West Festival in Hamburg (Germany), Recital di pianoforte a Minusio in Minusio (Switzerland), Junge Talent concert in Hamburg, Milal concert in Kiel (Germany), Klavierfestival in Munich (Germany), Concert in Berlin Philharmonie Kammermusiksaal in Berlin (Germany), and Concert at the Ethnographic Museum in Split (Croatia).
