“She was like a meteor which soared forth over a wondering world” – King Oscar the Second of Sweden.

Join us for an afternoon of song, narrative and multi-media exploring the extraordinary life of Sweden’s Jenny Lind, the most famous singer of the 19th Century. From penury, she rose to unparalleled heights as an opera and concert singer, mesmerizing queens and kings, as well as people of all ages and financial strata. Her American tour, with impresario P.T. Barnum, may well be considered the grandest in our history. You’ll hear songs she sang, woven with a narrative of her life and images of Lind in portrait and in costume. Performers include, Laura Loge, soprano; Steven Luksan, pianist; and narrator, Kevin Hugh Lynch, Jenny Lind Historian and Archivist. This program is sponsored by Whidbey’s Saratoga Orchestra.

Tickets available at Bayleaf (Coupeville), Click Music (Oak Harbor), and Blue Sound Music (Langley), as well as at the door.

COVID-19 Protocols:
In an effort to align our concert attendance policy with the new Washington State guidelines,
we will no longer be checking vaccination cards upon entry. The wearing of masks is encouraged but not mandatory. Seating is unreserved.

About Saratoga Orchestra of Whidbey Island

Whidbey's Saratoga Orchestra formed as an expansion of the Saratoga Chamber Players founded by Whidbey Island's legendary violinist and arts supporter, Michael Nutt. Previously known as Saratoga Chamber Orchestra, the name is derived from the beautiful Saratoga Passage that flanks the east side of Whidbey Island and the stand of trees known as the Saratoga Woods. In 2007, Legh W. Burns, Music Director Emeritus, began a regular concert series performing throughout the island for Whidbey audiences. Dr. Anna Edwards has led the orchestra as Music Director since 2015, and has brought national attention to the ensemble for its innovative programming championing women, BIPOC and underrepresented composers and hosting the highly esteemed Pacific Northwest Conducting Institute held each summer.
