Hailed as "America’s leading string quartet" by The Washington Post, the Grammy Award-winning Emerson String Quartet return to the Terrace Theater. The ensemble reunites with Kennedy Center Artistic Advisor at Large Renée Fleming for another “rapturous recital” (The Washington Post) after their successful collaboration on the 2015–2016 chamber music season. At the center of the evening is Penelope, a new monodrama inspired by Homer's The Odyssey from the Academy Award-winning composer André Previn, with libretto by playwright Tom Stoppard and the role of Penelope by Academy Award-nominated actress Uma Thurman.

COVID-19 Protocols: To enter Kennedy Center theaters, patrons must show proof they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 – with a physical or digital copy of their vaccination card and government-issued ID with the same name. Fully vaccinated means 14 days have passed since the full dose of a vaccine.

Some exemptions apply. Children who are vaccinated can show proof of vaccination for entry. Children who are not vaccinated must show proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours before performance time.

Masks are required for all audiences inside the Kennedy Center, except while eating or drinking in designated locations.

Ticket purchasers are responsible for communicating these rules to whomever they provide tickets. The vaccine requirement also applies to performers and staff.
