92Y continues its collaboration with the New York Philharmonic with an exquisite program — an extension of the orchestra’s new Schumann Connection series centered on the music of Robert Schumann and new works reflecting on the Robert-Clara relationship.

This intimate chamber music concert, featuring Musicians from the New York Philharmonic and award-winning pianist Gilles Vonsattel, explores the intimacy of the Clara Schumann/Brahms connection. Featuring a selection of Clara Schumann's solo piano works and her character-filled Three Romances, Op. 22, juxtaposed with Brahms' C minor Piano Quartet, which magnificently captures his unrequited love for Clara in music, the program offers a microcosm of a rich creative and emotional world interweaving creator and muse. Also on the program, an early Beethoven work of pure sunshine, the composer's G major String Trio.

Attending online: Concert available for viewing online for 72 hours from time of broadcast.

Attending in person: Adults and children age 12+ must show proof of vaccination upon arrival at 92Y. Masks must be worn by everyone over the age of 2, regardless of vaccination status.

About Rebecca Young, viola

Rebecca Young joined the New York Philharmonic in 1986 as its youngest member. In 1991 she won the position of Associate Principal Viola. Two months later she was named principal viola of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. After spending the 1992–93 season in Boston and two summers at Tanglewood, she ultimately decided to return to her family in New York, resuming her Associate Principal position with the Philharmonic in September 1994. She can currently be seen leading the viola section of the All-Star Orchestra, a popular televised educational series about classical music.
