Portland-based chamber orchestra Palaver Strings presents Kaleidoscope, a concert exploring fresh perspectives on the classical tradition. This special Massivemuse will take place in the Rare Book Room at NYC's famous Strand Book Store near Union Square.
Kaleidoscope remixes and reimagines the sounds of the string orchestra, featuring fresh compositional voices and the personal touch of Palaver’s musicians.
At the heart of the program is Max Richter's Four Seasons, a neo-minimalist “remix” of Vivaldi’s beloved violin concertos, featuring Palaver violinist Ryan Shannon, harpist Charles Overton, and harpsichordist Benjamin Katz. We will follow the Richter with Jessie Montgomery's Strum, a joyful piece infused with luminous string textures, lyrical melodies, and infectious dance rhythms. We’ll finish up with an arrangement of original fiddle tunes by Maine-based fiddler Liz Knowles and Palaver’s own violist, Elizabeth Moore.
BYOB, and make sure this event is in your books!
