$25 ($20 senior/student)
- Mikhail Shmidt, violin
Pēteris Vasks — Violin Concerto No. 1 "Distant Light"
Laura Silberberg Sgroi — Lux Aeterna (US premiere)
Morten Lauridsen — Lux Aeterna
Join Kirkland Choral Society and Philharmonia Northwest and thrill to one of the great modern choral masterpieces, Lux Aeterna, by Washington's own Morten Lauridsen. To hear the full choral-orchestral version is a rare treat!
In addition, a purely instrumental highlight will be soloist Mikhail Shmidt, world-renowned violinist from the Seattle Symphony, joining the orchestra for Peteris Vasks' spectacular violin concerto, "Tala Gaisma" ("Distant Light"). This Latvian composer is one of the most influential and praised European contemporary composers, and this concerto shines a brilliant light on why.
Two shorter choral gems complete the program – one by fellow Latvian composer Ēriks Ešenvalds, and the US premiere of a piece by Canadian Laura Silberberg Sgroi.
