Moritz of Hesse-Kassel — Selected works
Moritz (or Maurice) of Hesse-Kassel was the first patron of Heinrich Schütz, financing the composer’s first trip to Venice, where he studied with Giovanni Gabrieli. We will perform selections from Schütz’s Italian Madrigals and settings by the dedicatee of that collection, Duke Moritz himself. Modern "madrigals" by contemporary women composers complete this program and our season.
