As a young child, Joseph Meyerhoff emigrated from Ukraine to Baltimore, and 75 years later gifted us the vision and support for our Baltimore home, the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall.
In honor of the contributions of all men and women of Ukrainian descent and the brave people and sovereign nation of Ukraine, the BSO partners with the Creative Alliance to raise humanitarian funds. Tickets are pay-what-you-wish, starting at $10, with ticket and concession proceeds donated to the International Rescue Committee.
Conductor Jonathon Heyward leads a program that encourages communal reflection on "the universal tragedy we find ourselves in today," including the Ukrainian National Anthem and a poem by Taras Shevchenko. Heyward shared, "these works elicit feelings of outrage, sadness over the death of innocents, love of homeland, devout heroism, and the quintessential pride of the Ukrainian people. Through the power of music we stand in solidarity with Ukraine and hope for a more harmonious and peaceful world."
