Milica Jelača Jovanović boasts remarkable credentials, both scholarly and critical. With degrees from the University of Belgrade, the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, and the University of Michigan, she continued into a stellar career of solo recitals and chamber music concerts throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe, including her native Serbia.

Dr. Jovanović will pair giants of the keyboard repertoire with accomplished women composers. She contrasts several centuries of masterworks by Bach-Busoni, Schumann, Liszt, and Prokofiev, with comparable major works by Clara Wieck-Schumann and Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel.

You will also be introduced to an early 20th-century composer and performer, Florence Price, one of the first African-American classical composers to win national attention. Thanks to a recent discovery, her impressive catalog is just starting to get the recognition it deserves.

Join us and enjoy Milica’s exceptional artistry and virtuosity! Our one hour-long matinee is on Wednesday, May 4 starting at 10:30am, followed by the full-length BMC Night Beat, on Friday, May 6 at 7:30pm. Both recitals will take place at First Congregational Church, 2401 Cornwall Ave. in Bellingham.

As always, the matinees are free and open to the public; they are BMC’s gift to the community! Tickets for Night Beat are $20; they are on sale online on Brown Paper Tickets , at Village Books in Fairhaven, and at the door before the concert. Take a teen for free – and all students with ID are free too!
