In recital, the pianist Inna Faliks explores the satirical and supernatural novel, The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov. Faliks gives the world premiere of two compositions written especially for this occasion: Maya Miro Johnson's Manuscripts Don't Burn, for speaking pianist and Margarita Suite for piano by Veronika Krausas. In a nod to the novel's Faustian theme, Ms. Faliks' program also includes Liszt's Mephisto Waltz and Beethoven's Sonata Op. 111, discussed in Thomas Mann's novel Dr. Faustus.

The program is part of Inna Faliks' ongoing series, "Music/Words," interdisciplinary performances that explore meaningful connections between music, poetry, and literature.
