"The day is coming when a single carrot, freshly observed, will set off a revolution."

– Paul Cezanne

Composers Andy Akiho and Gabriella Smith are shining stars in the new music scene, and Pyxis Quartet takes on two of their most virtuosic works: Andy's Prospects for a Misplaced Year (with guest pianist Yoko Greeney) and Gabriella's Carrot Revolution

In these pieces the composers really push us to expand our technical chops. Gabriella has us doing old-time fiddling chopping strokes and some hair-on-fire improvising, creating the coolest cross-genre jam session ever. Andy transforms the ensemble by using wood, metal, and putty as implements to expand the sound color palette of the quintet. Rhythmically complex, harmonically restless, and otherworldly beautiful – Andy takes us on quite a musical journey!
