"Word over all, beautiful as the sky! Beautiful that war, and all its deeds of carnage, must in time be utterly lost." These words from American poet Walt Whitman serve as a central meditation in this musical experience from The Washington Chorus (TWC): Justice & Peace. In his chorus and orchestra debut with TWC at The Kennedy Center Concert Hall, Artistic Director Eugene Rogers has created a moving and urgent musical reflection on our time, and the vital role that both justice and peace play in creating a world where every voice is celebrated and included. The program opens with the world premiere of a new musical work by Roshanne Etezady, then moves to the DC premiere of Justice Symphony by Oregon composer Damien Geter, a recent composer with Washington National Opera's American Opera Initiative. The program concludes with Ralph Vaughan Williams' stunning Dona Nobis Pacem, a cantata for chorus, orchestra, and soloists that is a true cry for peace. Dr. Rogers leads The Washington Chorus with professional orchestra and soloists Karen Slack, soprano, in her Washington Chorus debut, and baritone Kerry Wilkerson.
