The 4th Annual Frost Chopin Festival celebrates its live return with an amazing lineup of two stellar pianists: 18-year-old J J Jun Li Bui, who won 6th prize at the XVIII International Chopin Competition in Warsaw last year, as well as the eminent Polish pianist Ewa Pobłocka, prize winner of the X International Chopin Competition. A specialist in the music of Chopin and J.S. Bach, Pobłocka recently recorded all of Bach's The Well-Tempered Clavier, and will open our festival performing some of his most magnificent keyboard works. The concert opens with J J Jun Li Bui’s renditions of works by Chopin, Debussy, and Stravinsky. Miami's beloved musicologist Dr. Frank Cooper joins us again this year to introduce the concert program.
About J J Jun Li Bui, piano
Toronto-native J J Jun Li Bui won his first piano competition on the day he turned 7, which cemented his commitment to music: he went on to prizes in several Canadian contests, as well as the Hanoi (Vietnam), Aarhus (Denmark), and Midwest (United States) International Piano Competitions. A student at The Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy for Young Artists at The Royal Conservatory Toronto under Michael Berkovsky, he also studies privately with Dang Thai Son. He has performed in recital across Canada, and with orchestras, including the China Guiyang Symphony, Greater Toronto Philharmonic, and Oakville Chamber. In his time away from the piano, J J enjoys cycling, reading, and table tennis.
