Oregon Koto-Kai invites you to a special musical journey in the beautiful and peaceful Lakewold Gardens. Watch and listen as Mitsuki Dazai, Josh Faber-Hammond, Amy Shoemaker, and Rena Takahashi perform a new program of koto ensemble music in 3 parts. The three parts are classical Japanese music, contemporary music, and Western music.
The Koto, or 13-string zither, has over a thousand-year history in Japan. The structure of the instrument is simple yet has so many possibilities. At Strings Across Time and Space, Music from Home guests will learn how koto music has adapted through the flow of time, tradition, and space itself.
Guests will also get to enjoy a delicious bite from Uwajimaya provided by Food from Home sponsors.
About Oregon Koto-Kai
Blending traditional and modern sounds of the Japanese koto, we inspire players and our community with musical performance and cultural collaboration throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Oregon Koto-Kai was founded by koto master Mitsuki Dazai, who moved to Oregon in 2002. She immediately began playing her music at coffee shops, bookstores, Japanese restaurants and at local events. At the time, her humble tip box was the only monetary reward, but the real reward was the response of those who heard her music. She was soon busy performing at diverse events and giving lessons both in the Eugene and Portland areas.

Featured artists collaborate with Curator of Art and Music Ricardo de la Torre to present repertoire that reflects their backgrounds and lived experiences in the intimate setting of Wagner House parlor.
We aim to grow in community through music in an inspiring natural environment.
