For the second year in a row, Queer Opera presents a concert featuring songs by composers from underrepresented or marginalized communities. These songs will be presented in a unique format, resisting the traditional "singer in the crook of the piano" staging. Instead, all singers will remain on stage for the duration of the concert, participating in the storytelling of each song. This acting and interacting brings the songs to life, engaging both the singers and the audience in the poetry being sung. Works by more familiar composers such as Leslie Adams, Jennifer Higdon, and Paul Bowles will be performed alongside those who deserve to be better known, including Penrose M. Allphin, Melissa Dunphy, and Hope Salmonson, among others. Join us for a captivating and unique afternoon of art song.
