Innovators, creators, disrupters. Delgani's opening concert features three composers at pivotal moments of artistic breakthrough. Haydn's Op. 20, No. 4 forms part of the set that defined the 18th century string quartet, changing the expectation of quartet music from light entertainment to works that develop to a satisfying conclusion. With a deep emotional landscape, Bartok's concise Third Quartet showcases his unique musical language. His love of rural Hungarian folk traditions mixes with modernist harmonies as he weaves a tapestry that feels both otherworldly and familiar. Beethoven's Op. 59, No. 2, filled with fiery drama and poignant lyricism, is one of the composer's most striking quartets.
