Music from St. Mark's presents John Rutter's beloved Requiem on Sunday, November 6 in celebration of All Saints' Sunday. Written for soprano soloist and chorus, the work will be presented by the choir of St. Mark's with organ and instrumental ensemble and led by guest conductor Gary Seighman of Trinity University.

Rutter's Requiem is unmistakably optimistic in its message of hope and comfort, expressed through the beauty of the chosen texts and characteristically lyric and uplifting music. The seven-movement work uses a non-traditional approach to the structure, weaving together texts from the Missa pro defunctis, the Psalms, and the Book of Common Prayer in an arch-like format, with the "celebratory and affirmative" Sanctus as the keystone. Rutter writes: "… I am sure that Faure's Requiem crystallized my thoughts about the kind of Requiem I wanted to write: intimate rather than grandiose, contemplative and lyric rather than dramatic, and ultimately moving towards light rather than darkness – the 'lux aeterna' of the closing text."
