A look at composers who were Cantors at Thomaskirche in Liepzig, Germany prior to – and including – J.S. Bach.

The choir will perform Nu danket alle Gott by Johann Hermann Schein (1586-1630). He was Cantor 1615-1630.

Johann Schelle (1648-1701) was Cantor 1677-1701. The choir will perform his work Machet die Tore weit.

Johann Kuhnau (1660-1722) succeeded Schelle as Cantor 1701-1722. His piece that will be performed is Ihr Himmel Jubiliert von Oben.

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) succeeded Kuhnau as Cantor 1722-1750. Cantata No. 43, titled Gott Fahret auf mit Jauchzen, is the selection to be performed.
