Portland Wind Symphony presents its holiday concert at Sam Barlow High School. Director Paul Nickolas leads the ensemble in works by Gustav Holst, Timothy Mahr, and Ron Nelson, along with traditional seasonal music. Narrator Ken Boddie and vocalist Amber Schroeder are guest artists.
PWS is an all volunteer ensemble composed of professional musicians, music educators, and legal and health care professionals. We present very high quality performances to the public without an admission charge. This event is easily accessible in the Sam Barlow auditorium and is family friendly.
About ​Portland Wind Symphony
PWS is a high quality ensemble that presents wind band concerts to the public free of charge. This is our 32nd year. Our members include professional musicians, educators, health care and tech professionals. All are volunteers who played in top college bands.

Amber Schroeder is a native of Gresham, Oregon and received Bachelors (2001) and Masters of Education (2005) degrees from Portland State University in Portland, Oregon. There she participated in the award winning PSU Chamber Choir under the direction of Dr. Bruce Browne. She is currently pursuing a Masters in Music, Choral Conducting degree through Simpson College in Indianola Iowa (2023). Amber has been privileged to serve school and church choirs aged Elementary through Adult and choirs, many of which have performed at events throughout the Northwest, including the Oregon Music Educators Association Conference. She recently won Pamplin Media's "Best Teacher" award, and conducts choirs at Sam Barlow High School.
