In 1941, Hanns Eisler found himself in Los Angeles, a refugee from Nazi oppression. Alone and out of place in Hollywood's superficial glitz, Eisler turned to this musical journal for solace from the loneliness and traumas of war that haunted him.

About Katherine Lerner Lee, mezzo-soprano
Born and raised in Brooklyn, mezzo-soprano Katherine Lerner Lee is graduate of Bard Conservatory, where she obtained her Masters in Voice. Passionate about contemporary music, Katherine helped found the Bard Sinfonietta Project, a new music student collective, and sung in the premiere of JL Marlor's The Final Veil and the orchestral premiere of John Musto's Shadow of the Blues.
