Paul Schoenfield's Café Music knits together music which might be heard at a dinner party, but also find its way into a concert hall. Jaunty light classical notes meet gypsy, Broadway, Viennese, and American genres. Steve Reich's Different Trains heartrendingly juxtaposes spoken word memories of train journeys in the U.S. and Europe during World War II, and the very different fates their passengers faced.
