Claude Debussy — Cello Sonata, L. 135

Claude Debussy — Danses sacrée et profane, L. 103
Francis Poulenc — Le bal masqué
The Met Orchestra Chamber Ensemble returns with an all-French program. Renowned actor Liev Schreiber brings to life the story behind Caplet's Conte fantastique, based on Poe's Masque of the Red Death. The piece is bookended by a pair of works by Debussy: Danse sacrée et danse profane, a rousing staple of the harp repertoire; and the Cello Sonata, an enduring favorite among both cellists and audiences. The concert also includes Saint-Saëns's Tarantelle, a lively piece of music that highlights flute, clarinet, and piano; and Poulenc's Le bal masqué, featuring baritone Joshua Hopkins, who is currently onstage at the Met Opera in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore.
