The community is invited to join FPC for a time of musical reflection as we journey through the season of Lent. All are welcome for these free lunchtime concerts taking place on Wednesdays in March

This concert features FPS music director and pianist Dr. Jeffrey Meeks, conductor Verena Lucia Anders, the Challenge the Stats String Quartet, and other Atlanta-based string musicians

About Jeffrey Meeks, piano

Dr. Meeks is the Director of Music and Fine Arts here at FPC. He is a three-time graduate of the University of the Cincinnati-Conservatory of Music and an active accompanist, working most recently for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s Talent Development Program and Cobb County School’s Title I choruses.

About Verena Lucía Anders, conductor

Verena Lucía Anders is the founder and director of Symphonic Revolution, an Atlanta based chamber orchestra, which advocates for diversity and inclusion, and performs affordable concerts in alternative venues. She currently serves as Director of Music at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church, and Co-Director of Voices Found, a social justice themed chorus in Decatur, GA. Mrs. Anders has also performed with the Atlanta Symphony Chorus and Chamber Chorus, and has served as Choral Teaching Artist with the Atlanta Music Project, an El Sistema based music education program. A conductor, pianist, composer, vocalist, and music educator, Born in Berlin, Germany, of Chilean and Peruvian parents, Mrs. Anders immigrated to the U.S., where she began her training in music and dance at the age of four at the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, MD.

Mrs. Anders completed her Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance under the tutelage of Santiago Rodriguez at the University of Maryland. Upon completion of her undergraduate studies, Mrs. Anders studied at the Alvin Ailey School for Dance in New York, while maintaining an active role as a performing musician. During her time in New York, Verena sang in the Grammy-award winning performance of John Adams’ commemoration of those lost in the 2001 terrorist attacks, On the Transmigration of Souls.

Mrs. Anders received her Master’s Degree in Conducting in 2010 from the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. under the tutelage of Dr. Leo Nestor. Mrs. Anders currently lives with her husband, Will Buthod, in Atlanta, Georgia.
