Midtown Concerts: Eurasia Consort – Silk Road Journey to the East
Free
Eurasia Consort presents music found on the Silk Road in East Asia. During the 6th Century, as Buddhist music filled the region between India and China, Japan became a cul-de-sac of music and instruments. The new ensembles include kugo, hokyo, sho, and shakuhachi, instruments available in the Shosoin, Japan, the world's oldest museum.
About The Eurasia Consort
Eurasia Consort would like to introduce some ancient and fascinating East Asian music. This Eastern repertoire is poorly known, both East and West. We now hope it may find its rightful place in the Early Far Eastern canon of music. We like to revive ancient music using manuscripts with instruments that survive in the Emperor's Treasury House, Shosoin, Japan.
