Commissioned by the Anchorage Concert Chorus in 2018, To have been there before sets a series of texts that describe the wilderness of Southeast Alaska by the American naturalist John Muir. Scored by Eric Banks for chamber orchestra and triple-chorus, Muir's texts about sky, sea, field, forest, and aurora borealis are accompanied by texts in Tlingit, to honor those who made Muir's journeys possible. This concert will also include two world premieres for chorus and orchestra – Anges nus and Fleurs d'artifice – by the Parisian composer Philippe Bodin. Don't miss The Esoterics' 30th anniversary fête!
