Note: This performance has been postponed.
This exciting offering highlights the piano music of composers Charlotte Bray, Daniel Kidane and Hannah Kendall. Two of Kendall's works form the centerpiece of the program: Processional and On the Chequer'd Field Array'd, complemented by the American premiere of Daniel Kidane's Three Etudes. Kendall and Kidane have similarly drawn inspiration from 20th-century painters: Kandinsky, for Kidane; and Norman Lewis, for Kendall.
Also featured are Adam Sherkin's Piano Sonata No. 1 "Sunderance" and Piano Sonata No. 3, "Ended in Ice," which depicts slowly shifting soundscapes. Finally, Charlotte Bray's Give Me All Your Dreams rounds out the program. Written in memory of Oliver Knussen upon his death in 2018, this music floats (and dances), moving rapidly through various states of a luminous, secret world.
This program will be presented twice: Saturday, April 22 in Manhattan; and Monday, April 24 in Brooklyn.
