PDX Voices & Vocal Summit: A Cappella Spring Fling

The Portland area is a leading region in close harmony and modern barbershop music in the country; FIVE local quartets/choruses will be representing Portland at the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS) International Contest this summer. All five groups are performing HERE on two shows, which will also feature international top 10 quartet The Newfangled Four.
Come experience the best in the Northwest close harmony scene, and support the groups that are representing our rainy home in the barbershop harmony world!
The show will feature The Newfangled Four, one of the top barbershop quartets in the world. Combining old fashion slapstick humor with their quirky offbeat comedy, The Newfangled Four merges their talents as top-notch harmony singers and first-class entertainers who perform throughout the United State and Internationally.
The show will also feature two award winning choruses – Vocal Summit and PDX Voices – and three award winning quartets – InVoice, Mugshot, and Argonauts – representing the best of mens and mixed barbershop harmony ensembles in the Portland area.
Both Vocal Summit and PDX Voices have earned the right to represent the Northwest at the BHS 2023 International Chorus Championships in Louisville, Kentucky. As a patron of our show, you are helping to support their trip to the competition.
What to expect? Toe-tapping musical numbers will include everything from religious to contemporary in style. Look out for a few special surprises to make it an extra magical spring fling performance for all ages.
This program will be performed twice: 3pm and 7pm on April 15.

About PDX Voices
The Portland, OR Chapter and PDX Voices was conceived in Rob and Katie Roman's living room in a planning session along with Mark Heathershaw and Noah Langenwalter. They sat for hours talking about Everyone In Harmony, and they saw no way that the concept couldn’t work if it was done with community, with friendship, and with love. PDX Voices has grown with those ideals as the foundation, and has cultivated a culture of openness, honesty, respect, trust, love, and family.
Since the formation in early 2019, PDX Voices has been a featured guest on several shows, and has competed at the Division, District and International levels, including winning the Evergreen District's Overall Mixed Chorus championship in both 2019 and 2022. The events of 2020 served to deepen PDX Voices commitment to truly living the culture of respect, integrity, diversity, and harmony.
Our mission is to explore and expand the future of Barbershop Harmony by excelling in our craft, partnering with other communities and non-profits in the greater Portland area for shows and educational events, educating ourselves on how to overcome obstacles to inclusion in harmony, be a force for positive change, and be overall outstanding ambassadors of mixed barbershop harmony singing.

From Southern California, The Newfangled Four is one of the top barbershop quartets in the world, performing all around the country as well as internationally. Formed in the fall of 2012, this foursome quickly bonded through their involvements with the Westminster Chorus and Masters of Harmony, two well-renowned choruses in the Barbershop Harmony Society.
Combining old fashion slapstick humor with their quirky youthful comedy, The Newfangled Four merges their talents as top notch harmony singers and first class entertainers. In 2013, the quartet won the International Collegiate Barbershop Quartet Contest and the Far Western District Quartet Contest. They compete every year in the open International Quartet Contest, and most recently finished 6th place in the world in 2019.
Over the years they have developed a reputation not only for their fine singing and showmanship, but also for their work and involvement in the youth harmony movement as clinicians and educators, leading countless workshops for young singers in the United States.
The Newfangled Four has appeared on Buzzfeed, Hallmark's "Home and Family show," the new "Gong Show," and has recorded custom tracks for the Lifetime Movie Network. With millions of views on their YouTube performances, they are proud to introduce the barbershop harmony art form to aspiring young singers and to provide nostalgia for those that fondly remember "the good ol' days."
