About Tristan Gianola
Tristan Gianola stands on his own as a classically trained composer and conductor raised on rock 'n' roll, with an experimental mind driven by meticulous standards, DIY attitude, distaste for cliches, and the neurotic desire for something new. He can be found leading multiple bands of variant original music, ranging from Guitar is Dead's fiery punk-jazz to Tree Stars' serene electro-chamber music. From dancing around a busy sideman schedule as a prolific guitarist, producing a never-ending list of new projects, conducting classically influenced ensembles, to getting trapped in the studio for days; always looking ahead to new sounds and leaving a monumental trail of musical conquests behind. Nicknamed "Maestro" by his colleagues, Gianola is a restless force in music. He currently operates out of New Orleans, after relocating there from his hometown Seattle in 2016.

About Catherine Schilling Matushek, viola
Catherine Schilling Matushek is originally from Pittsburgh, PA. She will always be a Steelers fan, but she is happy to call New Orleans home. She recently joined the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and is fortunate to play in the same orchestra as her bassoonist husband, Michael.
Catherine studied with Jeffrey Irvine and Lynne Ramsey at the Cleveland Institute of Music (where she and Radio Bird violinist Kurt were classmates and dorm neighbors!) Catherine is also a Suzuki violin and viola teacher and has around 15 students aged 3-adult.
About Joshua Gianola, percussion
Josh Gianola is a percussionist, advocate, and educator. Currently, he is the principal percussionist of the Yakima Symphony Orchestra and the Walla Walla Symphony Orchestra. An active freelancer, Josh regularly plays as an extra percussionist with the Oregon Symphony, Spokane Symphony, and has been a guest principal percussionist for the Mid-Columbia and Newport Symphony Orchestras.
A passionate advocate for systemic equity, Josh helped to launch Yakima Music en Acción (YAMA) in January of 2013. A nonprofit committed to developing youth leadership through music, YAMA's student body grew from 11 to over 120 in the years that followed. In addition to teaching orchestral and traditional repertoire, Josh served as Yakima Symphony Liaison and was the primary contact with the Yakima School District. Through fostering these community connections, Josh and the team at YAMA worked to disrupt barriers to access in the orchestral landscape, and further enriched the lives of hundreds of otherwise underrepresented students in the Yakima Valley.
Josh holds a Master of Music degree in Percussion Performance from Portland State University, and a Bachelor of Music Performance from Central Washington University. He now resides in Ellensburg, Washington with his wife, violinist Vanessa Moss, their black lab Gilly, and their cat, Cat. His principal teachers are Jon Greeney, Joel Bluestone, and Mark Goodenberger.
