Join ONNY as it celebrates its first performance in 35 years of the profound and moving 19th century masterpiece by Johannes Brahms, Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68. The program opens with the rhythmic and driving Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman No. 6 (2014) by Joan Tower, Music America's 2020 Composer of the Year. Charles Guy, ONNY's Principal Tubist, presents Jennifer Higdon's brilliant Tuba Concerto (2018). Also featured will be the 2023 Young Artist Competition winner.

About Charles Guy, tuba

Charles Guy is Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at the Crane School of Music at the State University of New York at Potsdam. He performs with the Potsdam Brass Quintet, Orchestra of Northern New York, and the Northern Symphonic Winds.

About Kenneth Andrews, conductor

Kenneth Andrews has served as Music Director and Conductor for The Orchestra of Northern New York since its founding in 1988. He has also served as Music Director and Conductor for the Castle Farms Festival Orchestra, Champlain Valley Symphony Orchestra, the Ohio University Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, The Bay View Symphony Orchestra, the Crane Chamber Orchestra and as Interim Music Director for the Crane Symphony Orchestra from 2009–2011.

Mr. Andrews holds the rank of Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus from the Crane School of Music and SUNY Potsdam, where he taught for 33 years. He served as Professor of Flute, and directed of the Contemporary Music Ensemble for 31 years. His numerous awards include the President’s Award for Excellence in Research and Creative Endeavors.
