The NSO presents the compact, complex final sinfonia by George Walker (1922–2018), a Washington, D.C. native and the first Black composer to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music. Bold and uncompromising, Sinfonia No. 5, "Visions," crowns a long career in which Dr. Walker produced more than 90 groundbreaking works. Gianandrea Noseda bookends the program with two glorious Beethoven symphonies: the buoyant, humorous Eighth and the relentlessly rhythmic Seventh.
