Iconic string works take center stage in SMCO's season finale. In Respighi's Ancient Airs and Dances, lute songs of the Renaissance are transformed into dramatic music for the modern string orchestra. Dvořák's famous Serenade brings his trademark Czech lyricism to the string ensemble, creating lush textures and dazzling virtuosity. The brilliance of one of history's greatest Renaissance men, the Classical era composer and revolutionary colonel Joseph Bologne, shines in his tuneful ninth violin concerto.
