An afternoon of expansive works of varied scale. Robert Planel's reed trio, Andante et Scherzo, captures the classic French impressionist style in a work that’s greater than the sum of its parts. Venezuelan composer Teresa Carreño's Serenade for String Orchestra brims with romantic expression and bombast. The program culminates with Kevin Puts's Seven Seascapes. Written in 2013, each movement is tied to an excerpt of poetry about water, highlighting our never-ending fascination with the sea.
