The Everett Phil celebrates the beginning of the festive season with traditional favorites for all ages. We’ll open with the lively and playful overture to Humperdinck’s Hansel & Gretel. Since its premiere this fairytale opera remains a Christmas tradition for many families, popular for its libretto and rich, Wagnerian orchestration. Next Dr. Cobbs will lead the orchestra in a suite of music from everyone’s favorite holiday ballet, The Nutcracker. Tchaikovsky’s arrangement of his own ballet hits all the high points including the sugar plum fairies and waltzing flowers. Then we’ll celebrate the next generation of classical musicians with a performance by this year’s Snohomish County Music Teachers Association concerto winner, Courtney Tam. This youngster will thrill you with her virtuosity and inspire you with her stirring interpretation of the first movement from Chopin’s majestic second piano concerto. We’ll conclude with Leroy Anderson’s delightfully upbeat Sleigh Ride, during which children in the audience will be able to join the orchestra in ringing in the holidays with bells.

Join us Sunday, November 26, at 3pm in the Everett Civic Auditorium (2415 Colby Ave., Everett, WA 98201). Tickets on sale now for $20; $10 per ticket for groups of four or more; children five and younger free with an adult.
